SkillsUSA Championship results
More than 5,600 students competed in
the annual SkillsUSA Championships
in Kansas City, Mo., June 21-25. To see

baking, culinary arts and food and

medalists.aspx. SkillsUSA is a national organization for students in
trade, industrial, technical and health occupations education.
Students win Kraft scholarships
Congratulations to Sonali Ruder, a student at The Institute
of Culinary Education, New York, for winning the 2010 Chefs
of Grey Poupon Student Culinary Competition and a $20,000
scholarship from Kraft Foodservice. Ruder won the award
following a competition in Glenview, Ill., in May.
Joshua Ogrodowski, CC, a student at Johnson & Wales
University, Providence, R.I., took home second place and a
$5,000 scholarship. Sarah Roberts, a recent graduate from
Kendall College, Chicago, took home third place and a $3,000
scholarship. And Brooke Maynard, a student at The Culinary
Institute of America, Hyde Park, N. Y., won a $2,000 scholarship
for fourth place.
Delgado offers new pastry program
Students wanting to hone their pastry
skills now have one more school to
consider: Delgado Community College,
New Orleans. The school’s culinary arts and
hospitality department recently announced
a pastry arts associate of applied science
degree. Students will learn about baking,
contemporary desserts and showpiece
